Job Description

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Deputy Principal assists the Principal in undertaking Executive Christian Leadership tasks to achieve the College's Mission and Vision.  The Deputy Principal plays a crucial role in managing the day to day operations and the implementation of strategic initiatives.

Applicants are required to address the following selection criteria, providing evidence of their experience, capability, and alignment with the College’s Christian values and strategic direction.

1. Christian Leadership

Demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of Riverside Christian College.

  • Evidence of a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and active involvement in a Christian community.
  • Capacity to model and promote Christian values in all interactions, decision-making, and leadership practices.
  • Experience in cultivating a school culture that reflects Christ’s teachings through pastoral care, service, and faith formation programs.
  • Ability to provide spiritual and emotional leadership during times of personal or community crisis.

2. Educational Leadership

Demonstrated ability to lead teaching and learning that is evidence-based, innovative, and focused on student growth.

  • Proven experience leading teams in improving teaching quality, assessment, and reporting practices.
  • Strong knowledge of current educational trends, curriculum requirements, and accountability measures.
  • Experience implementing strategic initiatives that enhance learning outcomes, enrichment opportunities, and student engagement.
  • Capacity to inspire and support teachers in developing effective pedagogy, classroom management, and professional growth aligned with the College’s Model for Teaching and Learning.

3. Student Wellbeing and Formation

Proven capacity to lead student wellbeing and holistic education within a Christian context.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and practices that promote student safety, wellbeing, and inclusion.
  • Experience leading positive behaviour support frameworks that align with school values and encourage student accountability and care.
  • Evidence of fostering student leadership, resilience, and personal development.
  • Commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment where all students can thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually.

4. Team and Community Leadership

Proven ability to build and sustain collaborative, respectful relationships with staff, students, families, and the broader community.

  • Evidence of leading teams with a focus on trust, communication, and shared purpose.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop staff professionally and spiritually.
  • Experience engaging parents and community partners to support student learning and wellbeing.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and promoting positive school culture through compassionate and fair leadership.

5. Organisational and Operational Leadership

Demonstrated ability to manage systems, resources, and operations effectively to support strategic goals.

  • Proven competence in overseeing budgets, resource allocation, and facility management.
  • Experience implementing and monitoring policies, compliance frameworks, and safety standards.
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to lead projects, manage competing priorities, and ensure operational excellence.
  • Ability to use data systems and analytics (e.g. TASS, Track 1, ELMO) to monitor performance, track student outcomes, and inform decision-making.

6. Strategic and Future-Focused Leadership

Demonstrated capacity to contribute to the College’s long-term growth and strategic development.

  • Evidence of innovative thinking and initiative in improving school processes or programs.
  • Experience contributing to or leading strategic planning, enrolment growth, and facilities development.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and personal professional growth.
  • Ability to align leadership practice with the College’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities.

7. Qualifications and Professional Attributes

  • Bachelor of Education or higher.
  • Current Queensland Teacher Registration.
  • Demonstrated experience across diverse educational settings.
  • Evidence of flexibility, resilience, and perseverance in leadership.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
  • A clear commitment to personal integrity, ethical conduct, and professional excellence.
